When Adidas launched Adidas Ultra Boost in 2015, they were even aware that the model had great potential – outside the world of sports. Therefore, they launched the so-called “Ultra Boost Collective” initiative, where they asked five creative characters – Stella McCartney, Kris Van Assche, Junichi Abe (from Kolor) and Dirk Schoneberg & James Carnes (Creative Directors at Adidas) bid for the new silhouette. In 2018, three years later, Adidas has chosen to revive the “Ultra Boost Collective” initiative and publish a handful of new interpretations of the successful model in collaboration with Engineered Garments, Kinfolk, Études and A Kind of Guise, respectively. Just the latter have just blurted their new Ultra Boost design.
Inspired by the Mediterranean
A Kind of Guise is a Munich-based brand that has previously collaborated with Adidas on two special versions of the New York model. Now they are back with a hugely detailed new version of Ultra Boost, inspired by exotic lemon grove areas around the Mediterranean, where they are often found.
AKOG x adidas Ultra Boost consists of the classic white BOOST sole and a beige-colored Primeknit top with a rippling wave pattern, which has a southern expression and reflects on the impoverished nature of the Mediterranean.
The typical TPU lacecages, usually wearing A Kind Of Guise x adidas Ultra Boost, have been replaced with a special wraparound lacing system that not only highlights the wave pattern, but also changes and modernizes the entire Ultra Boost silhouette. The upper part of the shoe is also equipped with a full-length hood, inspired by the NMD, with AKOG’s mantra, “No Worries We’ve Done This Before” and a soft leather suede with leather panels that emphasize the model’s backs, adidas and A Kind and Guise’s logos. . The shoe is rounded off with a yellow rubber outsole, inspired by southern “terazzo” marble floors, while referring to fresh, yellow lemons from the Mediterranean.
All in all, AKOG has managed to create a hugely detailed Ultra Boost with a special significance, definitely the new “Ultra Boost Collective” worthy. The model will be published at A Kind of Guise on July 28th and subsequently at Consortium Dealers such as End., Wood Wood and Solebox on August 25. More from Ultra Boost Collective
The continuation of the “Ultra Boost Collective” is far from this year’s only initiative from the Adidas Consortium – they have also collaborated with Kith, Sneakersnstuff, Footpatrol and Invincible to publish four exclusive 4D sneakers, as you can read more about this.
